Education Supervisor - Head Start and Early Head Start

Description:

The main responsibilities of the Head Start Site Director are to provide direct supervision to the Early Head Start and Head Start direct grantee programs; monitoring and implementation of federal and local standards; and administration and development of program operations.  The Site Director acts as a liaison between the programs and the policy council, board and community; and ensures health and safety of the facility.  The Brooklyn Site Supervisor reports to the Northside Center’s Director of Head Start Programs.

Responsibilities:

General

  • Guides the staff in the assessment, intervention, and delivery or services to children and families.
  • Support, facilitate and progressively improve the program’s services, within the policies approved by the H.S. Board and the policy council.
  • Provide leadership in planning, organizing, and staffing.
  • Participates in the hiring of all EHS/HS staff members.
  • Coordinates the development of sound policies and recommends changes.
  • Makes provisions for budgeting and reporting.
  • Provides supervision and evaluation of professional, clerical and maintenance staff.
  • Establishes and defines program staffing structure within the program.
  • Develops a technical assistant and training plan for staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining the program’s fiscal operation, statistics, and reports in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensures that EHS/HS multicultural principles are reflected in local program practices.
  • Collaborates with TECC early childhood management team in order to ensure the EHS/HS connection with the totality of services provided to young children by the Northside Center for Child Development, Inc.
  • Intervenes in the prevention of child abuse and neglect, as mandated by Federal and State law.
  • To see that good relationships are established with community agencies, parents and with the community.
  • Responsible for implementing Head Start performance standards.
  • Other duties in accordance with the needs of the agency and programs.

Supervision

  • Develops and evaluates EHS/HS home and center-based policies and procedures.
  • Monitors the daily operations of the program.
  • Supervises staff through staff meetings, observations of program activities, review of records and enrollment levels.
  • Evaluates program staff on a yearly basis (formally) and on a regular basis (informally), and develops improvement/training plans based on evaluation.
  • Identifies training needs for the program and plans with program managers the development and delivery of training to meet those needs.
  • Models appropriate communication techniques.
  • Oversees the program’s continuous outreach and recruitment activities within your community.

Qualifications:

  • New York State Permanent Teacher Certification (N-6)/(B – 2nd);
  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Three or more years of experience managing staff in an early childhood setting;
  • Must possess strong knowledge and experience working with children aged newborn to five
  • Experience working with families and children aged newborn to five
  • Must possess knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards.
