The Lead Teacher is responsible for the developing, implementing and the supervision of the classroom. The program of planned activities should promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child enrolled at the center. A safe, clean and wholesome classroom environment will be well maintained for each child and for their parent’s peace of mind. The Lead Teacher will also supervise any assistant teachers and volunteers assigned to the classroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the implementation of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services Child Daycare Center Regulations, in the day-to-day operations of the early childhood program/center.
  • Responsible for recording and maintaining required information about child’s growth, progress and development for the purpose of planning and compliance with NYS OCFS Child Daycare Center Regulations.
  • Foster a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline in the classroom. Establish a constructive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the Center.
  • Observe each child to assess skills, interests and needs, and use information to facilitate learning and growth.
  • Collaborate with team to develop effective lesson plans and activities that are appropriate and also to evaluates program’s effectiveness.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians, helps parents/guardians understand the curriculum and find ways for family involvement within the Center. Conduct parent/guardian parent conferences at least twice a year to discuss each child’s growth and development.
  • Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
  • Manage classroom materials and request supplies as needed.
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings. Responsible for attending yearly training seminars and other professional development training. (15 hours are required within the first 6 months of employment, and a total of 30 hours per licensing period.)
  • Daily housekeeping duties include emptying trash and diaper containers, cleaning and storing supplies, toys and cots and vacuuming carpeting, and mopping.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications:

Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Preschool Child Development Associate Credential, and a strong working knowledge of NYS OCFS Child Daycare Center Regulations. (Candidates must meet the educational requirements) Each employee must be able to pass a New York State Central Registry Child Abuse Database clearance, criminal background check, New York State Justice Center Staff Exclusion List clearance; as well as receive a health exam and Tuberculosis (TB/PPD) test. Current First Aid/ CPR/AED certification is preferred. Knowledge of the Highscope Curriculum is a plus.

The Early Childhood Education Teacher must have the ability to deal with children and parents in a positive manner, including an ability to deal with children with behavior problems, and parents who require attention with difficult situations. Must be committed to the mission and vision of Creative Beginnings Child Care, Inc.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to reach, bend, stop, push and/or pull, and frequently life up to 50 pounds.
