Under the direct supervision of the Classroom Head Teacher, the Infant Assistant Teacher fosters an experiential and developmentally appropriate learning environment where children are encouraged to be creative, and thrive in all aspects of their growth and development.
Utilizing the High Scope Curriculum, the Infant Assistant Teacher assists the Head Teacher in planning and implementing the daily classroom schedule and routine, including activities that are age-appropriate and sparks the interests of each child.
General Duties:
-Adheres to the Center's policies, procedures, and Chain of Command
-Adheres to policies and procedures established in Article 47, DOH, CACFP, CUNY and other regulatory agencies
-Provides a stimulating and nurturing environment based on the developmental needs of each child
-Implements, and follows a consistent daily routine and schedule
-Promotes and models positive classroom management techniques
-Implements the High Scope Curriculum, and utilizes Key Developmental Indicators in planning classroom activities and conducting observations
-Create and promotes a print-rich environment
-Able to plan and participate in individualized, as well as small group and large group activities
-On-going communication with parents, parent-teacher conferences, meetings, and other pertinent classroom communication
-Serves as a resource/referral for parents
-Facilitates and participates in parent engagement activities including parent workshops
-Reports to the Center Director all issues and concerns related to parents
-Implement Chain of Command in the Absence of the Director
-Works closely and effectively with outside service providers for special services to children
-Maintains supervision of children and adult-child ratios in the classroom
-Maintains, updates and supervises all daily classroom documentation-attendance, head-counts, meal-counts, etc.
-Works closely with the Center Director on new initiatives, events, children's activities, calendar, etc.
-Participates in In-Service Training and On-going professional development
-Promotes physical, social-emotional and cognitive development
-Enjoys working with Infants as young as 6 months old
Minimum Qualification:
AA Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
Currently enrolled in a BS Early Childhood Program
