Brooklyn Public Library is seeking one full-time Growing Providers Program Coordinator to work as part of a grant, funded by the Institue of Museusm & Library Services, to develop a child care provider training program, Growing Providers, at Brooklyn Public Library.

The successful candidate for this position will be preferably bilingual in Spanish and English, collaborate with our child care provider training partners, Early Childhood Professional Development Institute, Business Outreach Center Network, and Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, to develop a program to support candidates applying for a New York State child care provider license to operate a family child care program. Also with these partners, he/she will collaborate with BPL children’s librarians, branch staff, and Business Library staff to provide training sessions, mentoring, and application support to child care provider candidates at three BPL locations: Bushwick, Crown Heights, and New Lots.

This position requires professional knowledge and judgment, including, but, not limited to, child care provider registration requirements, childhood development, early literacy, and early care. The applicant should be a registered trainer in the New York State Aspire database or willing to complete the requirements to become one. Staff at this level report to the Coordinator of Early Childhood Services and other assigned supervisors, working in collaboration with the staff at her/his branch. The schedule is 35 hours per week for a two year grant period beginning in the fall of 2017.

Responsibilities:

Develops program materials, including resources for providers, and insures they are translated into the necessary languages.
•Conducts, coordinates, and supports programs to support child care providers completing the process for becoming registered with New York State
•Collaborates with library staff members and program partners to develop these programs
•Supervises the program assistant
•Promotes and markets the program series to the public, particularly potential providers
•Assists with grant budget management and drafting the grant report for IMLS
•Organizes quarterly meetings with the local and national advisory board
•Assists in data collection and data analysis for grant project
•Presents on the program results at local and national conferences
•Assists in the development of child care provider toolkit that could be adopted by other library systems across the US
•Attends necessary meetings and trainings
•Interprets and implements BPL policy
•Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree in Education or enrollment in an early education program preferred
•Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.
•Excellent communications and customer service skills
•Strong presentation and programming skills
•Experience working with children, teachers, parents, and caregivers
•Familiarity with early childhood development and early literacy
•Knowledge of library services desirable
•General experience working with the public and diverse communities
•Strong teamwork & teambuilding skills; respectful of team members’ input
•Candidates must be flexible, able to handle multiple competing priorities and tasks, adaptable to change, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
•Working knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office
•Strong presentation skills required
•Experience with the Aspire Registry preferred
•Ability to travel to and between Central, Bushwick, Crown Heights, New Lots libraries, other BPL branches, and offsite locations as required
•Required to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
•May require the ability to transport outreach materials and a laptop & projector as needed
•Ability to bend, reach, sit and stand as needed
