Description:

Applicants should have an extensive experience and knowledge of theories and practices in early childhood education. In addition, applicants should have university teaching and supervisory experience and competence in utilizing technology as an educational tool. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the candidate will be collaborating with several groups of people, including Hunter colleagues, students, and NYC school/program faculty and staff. We value candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to support individuals representing diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities; and who demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of urban educational contexts.

  • Master’s degree required for Lecturer. Doctorate required for Doctoral Lecturer.

  • Certification in Early Childhood Education preferred

  • At least 5 years recent teaching in early childhood (Birth-Grade 2) settings/classrooms

  • Strong communication (written/oral) skills

  • Strong Interpersonal skills

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses

  • Experiences coordinating or supporting clinical experiences in schools/early childhood programs

  • Familiarity with and commitment to deepen developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies

  • Experience mentoring pre-service or in-service teachers

  • Experience working within urban school systems

Responsibilities:

Applicants will be expected to collaborate with faculty colleagues and support teacher candidates in Early Childhood Education undergraduate and graduate programs. This may include teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses, supervising teacher candidates in clinical experience placements, developing and maintaining relationships with school/program leaders and cooperating teachers in partner schools. In addition, duties may include providing training and support for adjunct faculty of clinical courses and serving on departmental or School of Education committees.
