Barrow Street Nursery School seeks a Full-Time Early Childhood teacher for the 2021 – 2022 school year.
Students are between the ages of 2 years and 5 years at the start of the school year in September.
2s/3s and 3s/4s teach 2 separate groups of students; One group attends from 9:00 - 12:00 (M-F) and a separate group attends from 1:00 - 4:00 (M-F).
4s/5s teach one group of students from 9:00 - 3:00 (M-F).
Teachers at Barrow Street are practitioners of progressive education within the context of a social studies based program and a mission driven school derived from a Reggio Emilia and Bank Street inspired pedagogy.

Working with parents through the separation process
Mentoring assistant/associate teachers and collaborating with extension (art, movement, music, science and pottery) teachers.
Meeting with your teaching team, age-level colleagues, and administrators on a regular basis to plan and work together, discuss students and supports, and hone curriculum.
Fostering positive social/emotional growth through an environment where the balance of play and developmentally appropriate academic concepts are an essential component
Creating ongoing written portfolio pieces on students throughout the year
We seek a talented teacher who can inspire students, be inspired by our mission, and create a nurturing classroom with high educational expectations. Cultural competence, the ability to work collaboratively, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to work closely with families are essential.
Pedagogy should be student-centered and practiced in differentiated instruction.
Master’s degree in early childhood education
Must be certified in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2), or in the process of certification, by NY State
3 – 5 years of experience as a teacher and ideally experience as a lead teacher
Comfort, skill, and enjoyment in the writing process
Strong oral communication skills and ability to work with parents
A questioning stance and curious mind with a high tolerance for ambiguity
An ability to observe carefully and think inductively
Background or experience in special education is a plus
Demonstrated history of being a lifelong learner who continues their own growth through professional development.
