Description:
The objective is to assist the teacher in providing a warm and nurturing environment in which children can grow physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and observe children at ALL times
- Initiate, interact, and encourage children in activities throughout the day
- Respect and maintain confidentiality with children, parents, and staff in regards to center concerns
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings
- Complete 30 hours of training every license period (15 hours in first 6 months of employment)
- Report directly to the Lead Teacher, Director, or Administrator
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for the children
- Arrive on time to every shift prepared for the scheduled activities. Keep call-offs/request-offs to a minimum.
- Adhere to any additional responsibilities as requested by management
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age with minimally a high school diploma or equivalent
- Available during business hours Monday through Friday
- Fingerprinted per NYS guidelines
- Experience caring for children
- Obtain a pre-employment physical exam per NYS guidelines

Additional Information:
Physical Demands:
- Monitor children’s activities both indoors and outdoors
- Stand for an extended period of time (up to 45 minutes)
- Walk with balance on flat surfaces as well as graded areas
- Sit on the floor, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly
- Dress children, change diapers, and assist with toileting
- Perform daily cleaning duties including, but not limited to:
- Vacuuming
- Sweeping
- Mopping
- Sanitizing toys and equipment
Work Environment:
- Must be prepared daily to engage in activities indoors and outdoors (weather permitting)
- Tolerate various levels of noise as the classroom noise levels vary throughout the day
- Tolerate various scents relative to a childcare setting
Language Skills:
- Able to speak, read, and write basic English that is intelligible
- Read and understand New York State Office of Children & Family Services Regulations for Childcare
- Read and understand safety rules, policies, and procedures of Amherst Baby and Childcare Center, Inc.
- Professionally communicate with parents and staff both verbally and in written form
- Speak to children in a clear and intelligible voice
- Read and sing songs to children
- Keep written records for children including daily observations and information regarding activities, meals, and rest periods
