JOB SUMMARY:

The Early Childhood Teacher, will play a vital role in shaping the lives of young children during their formative years. The primary responsibility is to create safe meaningful relationships and an educational environment that aligns with the developmental stages of young children, promoting their physical, cognitive, and social-emotional growth. The teacher will collaborate with the co-teacher, student workers, support staff and parents to implement an emergent curriculum, ensuring that each child's unique needs and abilities are met.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,000 - $54,600. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
• A strong foundation in child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Ability to interact and mentor a diverse group of Adelphi University undergraduate students.
• Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, Google Calendar and zoom.
• Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality in regard to children parents, staff, students and observers.
• Ability to appropriately supervise children in a group setting.
• Ability to collaborate with other educators.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:• Possess the ability to lift 50 lbs. or more.
• Ability to bend, stoop and move freely.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Reflect on children's needs and interests, develop topic focuses, plan, implement and assess curriculum for the classroom setting.
• Responsible for developing and expanding curriculum based on children's interests and needs in conjunction with developmentally appropriate best practices.
• Supervise and lead classroom team in planning, implementing and assessing developmentally appropriate curriculum.
• Ensure that the outdoor play environment is well organized and utilized as an extension of the classroom setting.
• Plan and carry out daily classroom routine that is consistent yet flexible and meets the needs of the diverse learners in the group.
• Record, document and assess children's work and progress.
• Maintain active two-way communications with parents and other University personnel.
• Plan and conduct on-going parent conferences.
• Responsible for mentoring and supporting Adelphi University student workers at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Collaborate with, mentor and support student observers, and certification candidates placed in classroom.
• Engage in meaningful on-going professional development opportunities; including trainings required by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services, and Adelphi University.
• Understand and implement Child Day Care Regulations as administered by the Office of Children and Family Services.
• Maintain an orderly, sanitary classroom environment.
• Attend EI, CPSE and CSE meetings when necessary, work cooperatively with service providers to ensure the learning environment meets the child's needs.
• Perform any other job duties and responsibilities as needed by the program.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and/or Early Childhood Special Education or a closely related education field is required.
• Master's degree in Early Childhood Education/Early Childhood Special Education is preferred.
• Experience teaching children ages 18 months to 5 years old.
• Experience working in a student service environment is highly desirable.
