This Fall, members are welcomed to join us to read and discuss “The Sum of Us” by Heather McGhee. This powerful read gives us the opportunity to better understand the ways that racism costs our society. While the author, a descendent of enslaved people, identifies people of color as the primary victims of racism, she also demonstrates the many ways systematized racism negatively impacts all of society. In this book, we’ll see these impacts as McGhee unpacks her research in voting rights, healthcare, and the environment. McGhee challenges the “zero sum” mentality in America. Rather than taking away from some to give to others, McGhee encourages readers to think of and lead “win-win” solutions where all of society can advance together.
Through McGhee’s kindness in her writing and her optimism for a transformational future, we’ll reflect on our roles as early childhood leaders and champions of equality and equity in our communities. Join us for this influential read and opportunity for brave reflection amongst peers.
Our book group meetings are virtual gathers. Books are provided at no cost to participants. We anticipate this series will begin in October. Registration coming soon!
